Reading patterns, through Google
Google Analytics 4 runs on these pages and uses cookies. From it we see aggregate reports of pages viewed, device and browser types, referring sources, clicks on links that leave the site, and an approximate location that Google derives. We look at these to understand which notes are useful to readers and where the publication can be made clearer.
If you prefer not to be counted, you can block cookies in your browser or use the opt-out add-on Google provides. Google sets out its practices in its privacy policy.
Routine server records
The hosting provider keeps standard logs of requests, including the time, the URL and the user agent, which are needed for security and normal operation.
Crawler visits
We also note when search engine or AI crawlers fetch a page, recognising them by user agent. That note contains the crawler's name, the path and the time. It leaves out every human visit and contains no IP addresses.
What we do not have
No accounts, no newsletter subscriptions, no comments and no payment information, since the site offers none of these. Nothing is sold.
